Pettavaithalai is a town between Kulithalai and Trichy. The distance from Pettavaithalai to Trichy is 27 km and Pettavaithalai to Kulithalai is 8 km. The Pettavaithalai town is an important place of pilgrimage. The important temples are Karumbai Amman Temple “Lord Shiva” temple at Devasthanam. Pettavaithalai is by the river Cauveryand this is the take off point for the Uyyakondan canal which is the major irrigation canal for the fertile lands in trichy district. One of the EID parry sugar factories is located in this small town. this is one of the very feww factories that has a captive power plant. This town is also known for it's 'KORAI mat' i.e. the mat spun using the korai grass. This one of the main village industry prevalent in this place.
